Master all 33 stages of Bloxorz with this comprehensive 3D block-rolling guide. Features full walkthroughs for Level 1 to Level 5 and Level 18 (Code 284933), switch mechanics, split-block navigation, fragile tile handling, and expert strategies to never fall into the abyss.
Bloxorz is a legendary isometric spatial-puzzle game developed by Damien Clarke of DX Interactive. The primary objective is delightfully simple yet profoundly challenging: roll a metallic rectangular prism (measuring 1x1x2 units) across floating tile platforms and drop it vertically into the glowing square hole at the end of each stage. Every movement tests your understanding of three-dimensional geometry, center of gravity, and spatial foresight.
Basic Controls & Movement Physics
Arrow Keys or WASDUse the Arrow keys or WASD to tumble the block forward, backward, left, or right. A standing block moves two tiles when pushed into a lying orientation; a lying block moves only one tile when rolling along its longer axis and two tiles when rolling end-over-end. Always visualize two moves ahead before initiating a roll.
Victory Conditions
Vertical Hole EntryTo clear any of the 33 stages, the block must stand completely vertical and plunge straight through the square red target portal. Rolling over the hole in a horizontal position will simply bridge across the gap without clearing the stage, requiring you to navigate around to reposition your footing.
Common Failure Hazards
Void Drops & Fragile TilesYour run terminates instantly and the stage resets if any part of your block hangs over the edge and tumbles into the cosmic void. Furthermore, standing vertically on fragile orange tiles causes the surface to crack and collapse under the concentrated pressure, sending you into the abyss.
Each stage in Bloxorz generates a unique 6-digit numeric passcode upon entry. You can resume progress from any level at any time by selecting "Load Stage" from the main menu and entering the respective code.
Stage 1 to 5 Beginner Routes
Fundamental ManeuversStage 1 (Code 780464): Right x2, Down x2, Right x2 to reach the goal. Stage 2 (Code 290299): Up x2, Right x3, Down x1, Right x2. Stage 3 (Code 261732): Press the circle switch to extend the bridges, navigate around the perimeter, and align vertically. Stage 4 (Code 332374): Introduces narrow bridges where horizontal rolling is essential. Stage 5 (Code 284300): Watch your step around dead-end corner loops.
Level 18 Master Guide (Code 284933)
The Iconic ChallengeLevel 18 is widely considered the most notorious difficulty hurdle in the entire game. It features three complex switch clusters: Bridge 1 Sequence (U, L, D, R x4, U, U), Bridge 2 Sequence (D, D, L x3, U, R, D, L, L, U, R, D, R x3, D, D), and Goal Gate Sequence (U, U, L x3, U, L, D, R, U, L, L, D x4, R, R). Ignore the broken circle buttons on the far left wing!
| Stage | Passcode | Primary Puzzle Element | Key Tactic |
|---|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | 780464 | Basic Grid Movement | Tumble forward to learn axis changes |
| Stage 2 | 290299 | L-Shaped Corridors | Position block horizontally on narrow paths |
| Stage 3 | 261732 | Soft O-Switches | Any block contact toggles the bridge |
| Stage 8 | 328491 | Teleport Splitters | Divides the block into two 1x1 companion cubes |
| Stage 18 | 284933 | Heavy X-Switches & Dual Bridges | Must land vertically on X to trigger |
| Stage 33 | 106015 | Final Gauntlet | Extremely narrow suspended pathways with zero margins |
Special Tile Rules: 1. Soft Circle (O) switches toggle when pressed in any posture. 2. Heavy Cross (X) switches require maximum downforce and ONLY activate when the block stands completely vertical on top of them. 3. Orange fragile floor tiles can safely bear the distributed weight of a horizontal block, but will shatter instantly if you stand upright on them.
Mastering Bloxorz requires discipline, geometric awareness, and patience. Avoid frantic key mashing and study the grid orientation before making your first roll.
Mistake 1: Parity Miscalculation
Even vs Odd AlignmentBecause a standing block moves two units when pushed, its horizontal position shifts between even and odd coordinates. If your destination hole is on an even coordinate and you arrive on an odd coordinate, no amount of direct rolling will drop you in. You must execute an extra 3-step triangular loop to shift parity.
Mistake 2: Fragile Tile Panic
Orange Ground TrapPlayers often panic when rolling across orange fragile tiles and hit the directional key that stands the block upright. Always ensure your approach vector allows you to barrel-roll horizontally across the orange surface without pivoting onto its short end.
Mistake 3: Split-Block Isolation
Teleporter CoordinationIn stages with teleport splitters (marked as twin circular icons), pressing spacebar alternates control between the two independent 1x1 cubes. Never leave one cube stranded in a corner where it cannot reach the reunion pressure plate to reform the complete rectangular block.
Reverse Engineering Technique: When stuck on an intricate stage, start your analysis at the target hole. Look at the four adjacent tiles and determine which orientation the block must occupy immediately before making its final drop into the portal. Trace backwards from that final posture to connect with your current position.
Clear, direct answers to common questions about running, saving, and solving Bloxorz in modern web browsers.
Bloxorz was originally authored in Adobe Flash. Modern browsers run it through our built-in high-performance Ruffle Flash emulation engine. If the screen remains blank, check that hardware acceleration is enabled in your browser settings (Chrome/Firefox Settings > System > Use graphics acceleration), disable ad blockers on game assets, or perform a hard refresh using Ctrl+F5 (Cmd+Shift+R on Mac).
Yes. PlayNoDownload provides full touchscreen adaptation for Bloxorz. You can swipe in the four cardinal directions directly on your screen or use the on-screen directional touch controls. The game runs natively inside mobile Safari, Chrome, and Edge without installing apps from app stores.
Your progress and latest unlocked level are stored automatically in your browser local storage. In addition, Bloxorz features a permanent passcode system: note down the 6-digit number displayed in the top-right corner of each stage. You can return days later on any device, select "Load Stage" from the start menu, and type that code to jump directly to that stage.
If you enjoy the spatial problem-solving of Bloxorz, try Shift (monochrome gravity inversion), Submachine (point-and-click escape rooms), Use Boxmen (clone cooperation physics), and The Impossible Quiz (lateral thinking brainteasers) directly in your browser on PlayNoDownload.
Orange tiles are fragile and cannot support the vertical standing weight of your block—always roll across them horizontally.
33 mind-bending levels, level passcodes, pressure switches, bridge toggles, and block splitter tiles.
Released by DX Interactive in August 2007, Bloxorz defined modern spatial block-rolling puzzles with intricate switch networks and memorizable stage codes.
